How to Get to Fukiware no Taki Falls

These impressive waterfalls in the lush Katashina Gorge are 7 meters high and 30 meters wide. Paths alongside the falls provide up-close views of the water as it cuts through the gorge and cascades downstream. The falls are accessible by train and bus from Tokyo via Jomo-Kogen or Takasaki stations.

The Fukiware no Taki Falls are accessible by train and bus in around 2 hours and 30 minutes from Tokyo, via Jomo-Kogen Station. From Jomo-Kogen Station, take a bus bound for Oze Tokura and get off at the Fukiware no Taki Bus Stop. From there it is a short walk to reach the falls. Alternatively, you can take a train to Takasaki Station, transfer to the Joetsu Line to Numata Station, and then take a bus to the falls. This route is slightly cheaper, but takes about 20 minutes longer.

You can board Hokuriku and Joetsu shinkansen services at Tokyo Station.

Joetsu Shinkansen

Joetsu Shinkansen trains from Tokyo Station reach Jomo-Kogen Station in around 70 minutes. The train fare is covered by various Japan Rail Passes.

Jomo-Kogen Station

This station in the Minakami area is a stop on the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo and is a gateway to northwestern Gunma. Buses stop in front of the east exit of the station. There is a tourist information center near the east exit.

Take a Kamata Line bus (Kan-etsu Transportation) bound for Oze Tokura. You can pay the fare in cash or with a transportation IC card as you exit the bus. The trip to Fukiwari no Taki Falls takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Fukiware no Taki Bus Stop

The stop is easy to miss, let the driver know you want to go to Fukiware no Taki, and look out for a road sign that indicates the way to the waterfall and the sidewalk entrance.

Goal: Fukiware no Taki Falls

From the bus stop, walk the path for about 5 minutes to the waterfall. There is a small shop selling souvenirs, drinks, and snacks on the way. The falls are especially popular in autumn, when colorful leaves create a beautiful contrast with the water.

Travel Tips
