A soothing onsen with a legendary history

Yabuzuka Onsen has a long and storied history. Legend says a Buddhist priest discovered the spring around 670. It is thought to have been used by 14th-century military commander Nitta Yoshisada (1301–1338) to help soothe his soldiers’ injuries after battles.

The onsen water here is rich in metasilicic sodium, purported to promote healing.
