Halfway up Mt. Haruna, Ikaho Onsen is an ideal base for exploring the natural beauty of Ikaho. Ikaho Onsen is famous for its Kogane no Yu ("golden water") and Shirogane no Yu ("silver water") hot springs. Nearby, hike Mt. Haruna-Fuji which is one of the peaks of Mt. Haruna, or go boating at the crater lake, Lake Haruna. Easily accessible from Tokyo, reaching Ikaho typically involves a combination of express train and bus, or a direct highway bus.
You can reach Ikaho in under 2 and a half hours by train and bus from Ueno Station. Limited Express trains run from Ueno Station to Shibukawa. From there, you can take a bus to Ishidangaiguchi Bus Stop in the heart of the onsen town. Alternatively, you can take a shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Takasaki Station. From Takasaki, transfer to a local Agatsuma Line or Joetsu Line train bound for Shibukawa Station, then take a bus to Ishidangaiguchi Bus Stop.
For a convenient and cost-effective journey to Ikaho, consider taking a highway bus from Tokyo Station. The Kan-etsu Transportation Ikaho Shima Onsen Go Haneda Line departs from Tokyo Station to Ishidangaiguchi Bus Stop. The journey takes around 3 hours, with rest stops along the way. Buses also depart from Haneda Airport Garden Bus Terminal. The trip from Haneda takes around 3 hours and 40 minutes. Alternatively, the JR Bus Kanto Joshu Yumeguri Go departs from Tokyo Station and Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal (Busta Shinjuku) to Ishidangaiguchi Bus Stop.
