You can reach Mt. Akagi in less than 3 hours from Tokyo by train and bus, via Takasaki Station and Maebashi Station. Fujimi Onsen is a convenient transfer point for buses to Akagi. There are three direct buses a day from Maebashi Station to Mt. Akagi on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
