Also known as Onioshidashi Park, this otherworldly landscape of black, craggy rocks was created from molten lava when Mt. Asama erupted in 1783. Walk among the rocks to see over 100 species of alpine plants and catch views of Mt. Asama, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. Mt. Asama Magma Stone Park is accessible from Tokyo by train and bus.
Reach Mt. Asama Magma Stone Park in around 2 hours from Tokyo Station by taking a shinkansen to Karuizawa Station, and then a bus. Alternatively, take a shinkansen to Takasaki Station. From there, transfer to a limited express train to Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi Station, then a local train to Manza-Kazawaguchi Station, followed by a 15-minute bus ride to Mt. Asama Magma Stone Park. The trip takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. A local train from Takasaki to Manza-Kazawaguchi Station is slightly cheaper, but adds an extra 30 minutes to the trip.
You can board Hokuriku and Joetsu shinkansen services at Tokyo Station. To reach Karuizawa Station, you need to take the Hokuriku Shinkansen.

The Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station reaches Karuizawa Station via Takasaki in around 70 minutes. Most seats are reserved. The train fare is covered by various Japan Rail Passes.
The station offers convenient access to destinations in western Gunma, including Manza, Kusatsu, Tsumagoi, and Naganohara by local buses. Buses for Mt. Asama Magma Stone Park (Onioshidashi-En Bus Stop) depart from the north exit of the station.

Take a Seibu Kanko Bus service bound for Manza Bus Terminal, and get off the bus at the Onioshidashi-En stop. You can pay the fare in cash or with a transportation IC card as you exit the bus. The trip takes around 50 minutes.
The parking lot is directly across from the entrance to the park, and is connected by a footbridge. Once you reach the park, there are several restaurants and souvenir shops near the entrance.
