Indulge in a retro-inspired getaway in Shima Onsen
Shima Onsen Toshimaya is a hotel full of old-school charm, with large outdoor baths set right next to the Shima River. It is the only accommodation in the area where all baths are filled with natural hot spring water that is not heated, diluted, or re-circulated. Guests are invited to retreat here to replenish their bodies and minds with nourishing meals and long soaks in nature.
All fifteen guest rooms are designed to afford views of the river, and have Japanese-inspired interiors, primarily rooted in traditional design, with some rooms incorporating Western-style beds for added comfort. Select rooms come with private baths, some with wide hinoki cypress tubs and others with compact, outdoor ceramic tubs. There are also communal baths, including two bathing areas that can be reserved for private use. Special bathing towels can be rented for use in the reservable baths.
Shima Onsen Toshimaya is attentive to guests with babies, offering stays with special amenities and services. Packages include rooms with en suite onsen baths and in-room dining. There are baby-friendly bathing accessories in all bathing areas, such as baby baths and chairs.
Their restaurant specializes in kaiseki, a Japanese course meal where every dish encapsulates seasonal flavors. At Shima Onsen Toshimaya, additional attention is given to using locally sourced ingredients and seasonings, sauces, and even aperitifs are homemade.
