Lighting up the mountaintop lake
Lake Haruna is illuminated spectacularly on evenings throughout most of December. The boardwalk and trees are decorated with more than half a million lights, many of which are arranged into festive designs and shapes. Each night an extensive laser light show is projected on the lake, and on a handful of evenings during the month, a fireworks show is held.
Lake Haruna's location atop Mt. Haruna and its elevation of 1,100 make the illuminations especially clear in the winter night sky.
