All things Gunma, in one place
Ikaho House 166 is a shopping complex located at the 166th step of Ikaho Onsen’s 365 stone steps. The building is believed to be over 100 years old and originally functioned as a traditional ryokan inn. Today, it houses multiple food and souvenir shops where visitors to Ikaho Onsen can shop and explore many of the things that Gunma has to offer.
Visitors can enjoy Osawaya’s famous Mizusawa udon at two locations within Ikaho House 166. The first-floor shop offers takeaway only, while the second floor provides dine-in seating. The restaurant is known for its Mizusawa udon noodles, a 400-year-old dish characterized by their firm, chewy texture, as well as their maitake mushroom tempura. For something slightly sweeter, there are two cafes that boast delicious menus: Ikaho Matcha 365 offers a variety of green-tea drinks and desserts; Izayoi Sen’s menu features small portions of yakimanju (unfilled buns that are skewered, covered in a sweet miso sauce, and roasted over charcoal) and coffee-flavored soft-serve ice cream.
On the third floor, there are three stores selling souvenirs and locally-made goods.Usaburo Kokeshi offers workshops where participants can try their hand at designing their own kokeshi wooden dolls, while Daimonya Co., Ltd. hosts experiences centered on daruma papier-mache figures. The third store, Yamanoha, sells a range of home goods and food sourced from all over Gunma.
