A local ski area with some steeps
Hodaigi Ski Resort is popular with locals but still relatively off the beaten path. Most of the resort caters to beginners and intermediates and provides less-crowded slopes on which to practice comfortably. For advanced skiers and snowboarders, the resort has some steep runs—one stretch even has a maximum angle of 40 degrees. Some tight, technical trees round out the Japan skiing experience.
Much of Hodaigi is on Mt. Hotaka's north face, meaning its snow quality is particularly good, even by Gunma's high standards.
