Pink blossoms watched over by a Buddhist statue

Mt. Kannon, overlooking Takasaki city center, is dominated by a striking 41.8 meter-high statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. In spring, thousands of cherry trees burst into bloom across the hills, creating the perfect frame for viewing the serene white statue.

Yoshino cherry trees bloom in early April. The park also has late-blooming wild cherry trees, so visitors have a wider window for viewing blossoms. At night, the trees are illuminated to magical effect, amplified by the view of the glittering city lights below.
