Akagi-jinja Shrine (Miyosawa)

赤城神社(三夜沢)

Last updated: April 23, 2021

A historic shrine located at the foot of Mt. Akagi

This is one of the over 300 Akagi-jinja Shrines found inside and outside Gunma Prefecture. It is a historic location with a wooden gate that is recorded as being built in 1556 and a large Japanese cedar that is over 1,000 years old. The roughly 3.2-kilometer road that leads up to Akagi-jinja Shrine is lined with around 1,000 pine trees that have about 4,000 wild azaleas growing at their bases. From late April through early May, the pine grove is colored red with beautiful azalea blossoms that are taller than an adult.
