How to Get to Takaragawa

A hidden onsen getaway on the Takara River in Minakami, Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku has become popular for its open-air baths on the riverbanks. You can reach Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku by train and bus from Tokyo via Jomo-Kogen Station.

You can reach Takaragawa Onsen in less than 3 hours by train and bus from Tokyo. The Joetsu Shinkansen runs from Tokyo Station to Jomo-Kogen Station in around 70 minutes. From there, you can transfer to a bus to Minakami Station, and then a bus to Takaragawa Iriguchi. Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku offers a free transfer from the bus stop to the onsen for hotel guests and day visitors.

You can board Hokuriku and Joetsu shinkansen services at Tokyo Station.

Joetsu Shinkansen trains from Tokyo Station reach Jomo-Kogen Station in around 70 minutes. The shinkansen to Jomo-Kogen Station is covered by the JR TOKYO Wide Pass and JR EAST Pass, and others.

Jomo-Kogen Station

Jomo-Kogen Station is the gateway to northwest Gunma. You can reach the station in around 70 minutes on the Joetsu Shinkansen from Tokyo. You can board buses to Minakami Station at Bus Stop No. 1 near the east exit of the station. The Tone Numata Tourist Information Center is located inside Jomo-Kogen Station, and the Minakami Town Tourism Association is near the east exit of the station. At these facilities, you can store luggage and buy the Minakami Area Pass which can be used for buses in the Minakami area.

At Jomo-Kogen Station, take a Minakami Line bus (Bus Stop No.1) bound for Tanigawadake Ropeway Station, to Minakami Station. The trip takes about 20 minutes. The bus is covered by the Minakami Area Pass. If you do not have a pass, you can pay the fare in cash or with a transportation IC card as you exit the bus.

Minakami Station is served by the local JR Joetsu Line. The surrounding Minakami area is home to a wealth of seasonal activities and onsen hotels. From Minakami Station, you can board buses bound for Tanigawadake Ropeway, Takaragawa Iriguchi and Jomo-Kogen Station.

Take a bus (Kan-etsu Transportation) from Minakami Station to Takaragawa Iriguchi bus stop. Buses for Takaragawa Iriguchi depart from Bus Stop No. 4 in front of Minakami Station, and the journey takes around 30 minutes. When you get on the bus, tell the driver you want to go to Takaragawa Onsen. The bus is covered by the Minakami Area Pass. If you do not have a pass, you can pay the fare in cash or with a transportation IC card as you exit the bus.

From Takaragawa Iriguchi bus stop, you can take a free transfer provided by Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku to the hotel. Both day trip visitors and hotel guests can use this service. The onsen baths are available for day use, but an overnight stay is the best option to relax and recharge.

If you are staying at Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku, the hotel offers a free shuttle bus transfer directly from Jomo-Kogen Station (advanced reservation is required).

Shuttle Bus to Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku

Takaragawa Onsen Osenkaku provides two free daily shuttle bus transfers from Jomo-Kogen Station to the hotel for guests staying overnight. There is also one daily service from Minakami Station. Contact the hotel before you travel.
