Last updated: March 14, 2021

A shrine that’s a national important cultural property built in the medieval period

This shrine is said to be built by the first shogun of the Kamakura Period (1185–1333), Minamoto no Yoritomo. The beautiful, red lacquer main hall is designated a national important cultural property. It is located in the center of the area that was popular as the first stop on the Reiheishi-kaido, a road built in the Edo Period (1603–1868) that led to the Nikko Toshogu Shrine. A large torii gate stands along the road that still remains to this date.
