Vibrant festivities in a small onsen town
The quiet town of Onishi comes alive during the Onishi Summer Festival. Five districts gather to parade illuminated floats through the streets to the accompaniment of thumping drums.
The most anticipated events of this loud, colorful festival are the Shindenzaka run—in which people pull the floats at full speed up a slope—and the Yoriai, when the floats gather together as traditional music is played.
