In dedication to the deity of silk

Nukisaki-jinja is one of the region's most important shrines. It is particularly dear to the Tomioka community because it enshrines Hime Okami, the deity of silk farming and weaving, historically two of the city's key industries.

The shrine's history dates back over 1,400 years, and the currently standing main shrine dates to 1635. The pair of large bronze lanterns at the entrance were made in 1866 with the support of over 1,500 local donors in the silk industry.
