Kanna Koinobori Carp Streamers Festival

Kanna Koinobori Carp Streamers Festival

神流鯉のぼり祭り

Last updated: April 23, 2021

Take part in Children's Day festivities along the Kanna River

Hundreds of carp streamers called "koinobori" are flown for Children's Day in Kanna in early May.

Streamers like these are flown across Japan this time of year. The biggest fish represent the father, the smaller represent the mother, and the smallest carp represent children.

This festival takes the tradition a step further, with around 800 of the colorful carp flying along the Kanna River. The best vantage point for seeing this spectacle is from a river raft ride. The festival also features taiko drum performances, food stalls, and other performances.
