A traditional Buddhist festival that lights up the summer night
The Tone River is lit up for a night in mid-August with ceremonial lanterns that are floated on the water while priests chant prayers. Fireworks are launched from the river, creating beautiful reflections.
The Chiyoda Kawasegaki Festival dates back over 140 years and is part of Japan's Obon celebrations during which Buddhists honor their ancestors' spirits.
