Agatsumakyo Gorge Rail Bike Agattan

Hop on the Agatsumakyo Gorge Rail Bike “Agattan” to explore the scenic beauty of Agatsumakyo Gorge and the Yamba Dam area. This bicycle-style trolley lets visitors ride along a section of railway that was decommissioned when Yamba Dam was constructed. With its rhythmic clatter over the rail joints and the rush of wind against your face, the ride is an exhilarating experience.

This electric-assisted bicycle-style trolley makes it easy for riders to pedal, even on inclines. Each vehicle accommodates two people, but with an additional seat, up to four passengers can ride together. Solo riding isn’t permitted, so be sure to bring a companion. Rides start at Agatsuma Gorge Area Promotion Center, just off National Route 145. The center is around 7 minutes by bus from Iwashima Station.

The 2.4-kilometer journey (one way) winds through Agatsumakyo Gorge, with breathtaking views from an elevated track. Pass through the Tarusawa Tunnel, the shortest railway tunnel in Japan, and catch sight of the modern marvel that is Yamba Dam. The track’s elevation offers a unique vantage point to enjoy the lush greenery of spring and summer or the vibrant hues of autumn. Although same-day ride slots may be available, reservations are recommended.
